I originally painted this series with the intent of creating fortune telling cards. At the start of my spiritual journey, I discovered Tarot and was inspired to try creating my own deck. With animals as the focus, this was the perfect opportunity to expand my subject matter while exploring my spirituality as well. Divine Beasts is a series with a variety of animals that represent different aspects of the human experience. While caterpillars and butterflies could represent growth, this piece has its own meaning.
Lioness was the first piece that inspired this entire collection. In Lioness, a powerful feline stands beside a woman whose eyes are gently covered. She is not lost. She is listening. This piece reflects the kind of strength that comes from within; The kind that does not need to see to know. The lioness does not question her next move. She feels it.
Lioness is a tribute to the women who lead with heart, who protect their peace, and who trust their power, even in the dark.
