Open edition 11x14in paper print.
I originally painted Surrender with the intent of creating fortune telling cards. At the start of my spiritual journey, I discovered Tarot and was inspired to try creating my own deck. With animals as the focus, this was the perfect opportunity to expand my subject matter while exploring my spirituality as well. Divine Beasts is a series with a variety of animals that represent different aspects of the human experience. While caterpillars and butterflies could represent growth, this piece has its own meaning.
With his beak tilted toward the sky, he isn’t casting a warning. He’s asking for grace. Caught between survival and surrender, he opens himself up to the elements, yearning for rain like a prayer whispered into the wind. It’s a moment of vulnerability and quiet hope, a reminder that even the strong grow weary. This piece is about asking for what you need, trusting the universe to meet you halfway, and recognizing that strength often lies in softness. There is always strength in asking for help.
