I originally painted Patience with the intent of creating fortune telling cards. At the start of my spiritual journey, I discovered Tarot and was inspired to try creating my own deck. With animals as the focus, this was the perfect opportunity to expand my subject matter while exploring my spirituality as well. Divine Beasts is a series with a variety of animals that represent different aspects of the human experience. While caterpillars and butterflies could represent growth, this piece has its own meaning.
In Patience, the leopard sits high on a rock, still as stone, surrounded by delicate flowers. The scene feels calm, but there is tension beneath it. This is not rest. It is readiness.
